The Hive Uniform Shed (above)

The Department for Education (DfE) in England introduced statutory guidance requiring schools to make pre-loved (second-hand) uniforms available, with the rules officially coming into force to help with costs for the academic year beginning in September 2022. The guidance, published in November 2021, mandated that schools must ensure second-hand items are available, with full compliance expected by September 2023.

The Hive Community Centre were one of the first in the area who set up the pre-loved uniform shop in order to help raise funds for the charity that runs the Centre.  Whilst some schools have now set up their own pre-loved uniform shops, we are still popular and we have lots of stock available.

In 2023 the Harry Tillotson Trust helped us to purchase a secure shed for us to store the unform and so this is how we started the Pre-loved Uniform Shed.

Carol Collins - Volunteer (above)

We have some wonderful volunteers who help sort through the donated items to ensure that we only keep the best and the rest is sent for rags, which raises funds too!

Carol leads our volunteers and dedicates her time to sorting orders and speaking with customers to make sure they get the items they require. Carol goes above and beyond for The Hive and our customers, for which we are grateful.
